Sacred Marriage

10. Sacred Marriage – by Gary L. Thomas [Marriage]
I actually hesitated adding this book, not because of the concepts or content, but because it wasn’t an ‘easy read’. I personally found some of the writing to be a little to wordy or hard to understand, especially when he got more in depth in theological sections. However, I don’t want to leave this book out simply because I struggled through some of the text. Also, there were a couple sections in which I thought the author was stretching and didn’t quite agree with, but it may be because I didn’t quite understand his points. Having prefaced that, I think this should be required reading for anyone entering into marriage. There would be for less divorce, if people reconsidered what they had vowed when things get tough. Your marriage is much more than feeling good or being convenient. In fact, the more difficult your marriage is, the more God may be using your spouse to work on and improve your character. Your marriage is in fact, an excellent opportunity for you to work on being more Holy. The subtitle may imply that your marriage may only be either Holy or Happy, but that is certainly not what the author is implying. The problem is that quite often we enter marriage for the sole purpose of having it make us happy, rather than allowing it to make us Holy.
