Advice for Dad’s with Daughters starting to date
Daughters are like flowers, they fill the world with beauty, and sometimes attract pests.

I just heard an awesome example of a Dad (who happens to be a former Marine) who does something really clever to the guys who want to date his daughter.
Before the boys can date his daughter, he first goes out with them! He goes out with them and asks them really tough questions like, “If we were in a room with a floor covered in gasoline and I gave you a lit match, how do I know you wouldn’t drop it and kill us both?” When the boy answers “I don’t know,” he says, “Then how do I know I can trust you with my daughter.”
The Dad also happens to be a hunter and will sometimes just take a boy on a walk in the woods while he’s carrying a shotgun. Priceless!
Although it’s funny, this is a great example of a Dad being involved and showing his daughter he cares enough about her to inspect the character of someone wanting to date his daughter.

I also heard a speaker (I wish I could remember his name) at a Marriage Conference speaking about how he handles boys who want to date his daughters. He always meets them at the door and talks to them before EVERY outing. He does this because (as a Youth Pastor) he once overheard some boys talking and they shared that when the dad doesn’t come to the door, they know they can pretty much ‘go for it’.
In addition, he address three things:
1. He makes them promise that they will treat his daughter like a lady – open doors for her, push in her chair, etc.
2. He makes them promise that they will not harm his daughter in any way. Not physically. Not emotionally. Not sexually. And not Spiritually.
3. He gives them his car keys to his brand new car. You might be wondering how he could trust some boy with his brand new car. He asks, how could I trust a boy with my daughter, if I can’t trust him with my car.
